I Illustrated My First Children’s Book!

So… big news – I’ve just finished illustrating my very first children’s book! And let me tell you, it’s been equal parts magical and mildly chaotic.

On the creative side, it’s been such a dream. Getting to doodle, colour, and imagine characters who spring right off the page has been the best part. There’s nothing like seeing a little world take shape, knowing that soon kids will be flipping through it and (hopefully) falling in love with the pictures. Honestly, it felt less like “work” and more like playtime most of the time.

Now, for the less magical bit: the endless resizing. Oh my days. If I had a pound for every time I had to change the image dimensions, I’d be rich enough to hire someone else to do it for me 🤣. I swear I resized some pages so many times I started dreaming in pixels. Trim lines, margins, bleed… let’s just say I now know more about printing specs than I ever thought I’d need in my lifetime.

But here’s the thing – even with all the faff, seeing the finished book come together makes every single “resize again” worth it. And honestly, it’s all part of the learning curve (a slightly wobbly, monster-fuelled, late-night learning curve, but still).

This project is just the beginning of an incredible new series written by the wonderful Charlotte Barrow. Working alongside her has been amazing – she’s so full of ideas and a joy to collaborate with. If you’re not already following her, make sure you do so you don’t miss out on what’s next!

✨ The very first book in the series will be available to purchase from Amazon on 10th October – not long to go now! 📚💫

Here’s to more books, more creativity, and (fingers crossed) slightly fewer resizing nightmares 😂
