Things That Will Probably Go Wrong at Disney (And Why That’s Okay)

Before having children, I used to imagine holidays going exactly according to plan.

Now that I have four kids, I know that plans are more like rough suggestions.

And that’s probably especially true for a Disney trip.

So here are some things that will probably go wrong… and why that’s completely okay.

Someone Will Get Tired

Disney days are long.

At some point, someone will probably become very tired.

There might be:

  • dramatic sighs

  • requests to sit down immediately

  • someone falling asleep while being carried

And that’s fine.

Rest breaks are part of the adventure.

Someone Will Want a Snack Every Five Minutes

Disney snacks are everywhere.

Which means the children will suddenly be hungry at very frequent intervals.

It will likely go something like this:

“Can we get popcorn?”
“Ooh look, ice cream!”
“Can we have that giant pretzel?”

The snack requests will be endless.

But that’s part of the fun too.

We Won’t Do Everything

This might be the hardest thing to accept when planning Disney.

There are so many rides, shows, and attractions.

It’s impossible to do everything.

And that’s okay.

The goal isn’t to tick every single thing off a list.

The goal is to enjoy the things we do experience.

Someone Will Probably Have a Meltdown

At some point during the trip, someone may have a meltdown.

It might be because they’re tired.
It might be because they’re overwhelmed.
It might be because someone else got the bigger snack.

It happens.

Kids are human.

And Disney is a very big, exciting place.

Plans Will Change

Even the best Disney plans can change.

Weather happens.
Queues are longer than expected.
Kids suddenly want to do something different.

Flexibility will probably become our most useful travel skill.

But the Magic Will Still Be There

Even if things go slightly wrong, the magic moments will still happen.

The first time the kids see the castle.
The excitement of meeting characters.
The laughter on rides.

Those are the things we’ll remember.

And honestly, a little bit of chaos often makes the best family memories.
