YA Fantasy Book Teens Are Loving – These Shattered Spires Review

Book Review: These Shattered Spires by Cassidy Ellis Salter

As a mum who is always looking for books that truly capture my children’s attention, I love finding stories that make them forget about screens for a while. Recently, my teenage daughter picked up These Shattered Spires by Cassidy Ellis Salter, and from the moment she started reading it, I could tell this one was going to be special.

My daughter is quite selective with what she reads. If a book doesn’t grab her within the first few chapters, it usually gets quietly abandoned on her bedroom floor. These Shattered Spires was the complete opposite.

Within the first evening she was already completely absorbed in the story, and by the next day she was carrying the book around the house so she could sneak in “just one more chapter.” That’s always the biggest sign to me that a book has really worked its magic.

She loved the mysterious setting and the dramatic world the author created. The towering spires, the atmosphere, and the unfolding story pulled her in straight away. She kept coming to tell me little snippets about the characters and the twists in the story without giving away spoilers, which is exactly what you want from a great fantasy novel.

What stood out most was how invested she became in the characters. She talked about them as if they were real people, which is always the mark of strong storytelling. The tension and emotion throughout the book clearly kept her hooked from beginning to end.

It is the kind of story that encourages readers to imagine, question, and completely lose themselves in another world. For teenagers especially, that sense of escapism can be incredibly powerful.

From a parent’s perspective, it’s always wonderful to see a book spark that level of excitement. Watching my daughter genuinely love a story and rush to tell me about it reminded me just how powerful a good book can be.

Overall, These Shattered Spires turned out to be a fantastic read for my teen. It captured her imagination, kept her engaged from start to finish, and left her talking about the story long after she finished the final page.

If you have a teen who enjoys fantasy adventures with rich worlds, mystery, and compelling characters, this is definitely one worth adding to their reading list.
