Things I’m Pretending Will Go Smoothly at Disney with 4 Kids

We are currently in the planning phase of our Disney World trip, which means I am living in a wonderful state of optimism.

In my head, everything will run smoothly.

The children will wake up refreshed.
Everyone will happily walk miles around the parks.
Nobody will argue about snacks.

Reality may have other plans.

But for now, here are the things I am choosing to believe will go perfectly at Disney with four kids.

Getting Everyone Ready in the Morning

In my imagination, mornings will look like this:

Everyone wakes up happy.
Everyone gets dressed quickly.
Shoes go on the correct feet.
No one loses their hat.

In reality, I suspect there will be at least one missing shoe, someone refusing sunscreen, and a heated debate about which Disney ears are being worn that day.

Walking 10 Miles Without Complaining

Apparently the average Disney day involves 10–15 miles of walking.

Naturally, I have decided my children will handle this beautifully.

No complaints.
No dramatic sitting on the pavement.
No sudden declaration that their legs have stopped working.

I’m sure their enthusiasm for meeting characters will carry them through.

Waiting Patiently in Queues

Queues are a big part of Disney.

But I’m certain my children will stand calmly in line, chatting politely, patiently waiting for their turn.

There will be no:

  • boredom

  • sibling arguments

  • repeated questions about how much longer it is

Absolutely none.

Agreeing on Where to Eat

Disney has an incredible number of food options.

Naturally, my children will all happily agree on the same place to eat.

There will be no:

  • “I don’t like that.”

  • “But I wanted pizza.”

  • “Why can’t we just get snacks?”

Everyone will simply nod and say, “Yes mother, excellent choice.”

Not Spending All Our Money on Snacks

Disney snacks look incredible.

And I am completely confident that we will sensibly stick to a snack budget.

We will not suddenly buy:

  • giant Mickey-shaped pretzels

  • colourful ice creams

  • popcorn buckets

  • random treats we didn’t know existed five minutes earlier

Absolutely not.

Meeting Characters Calmly

In my mind, meeting characters will be calm and magical.

The children will walk up politely, say hello, take a photo, and move along.

There will be no:

  • sudden shyness

  • over-excitement

  • attempts to hug a character for several minutes

Just perfectly composed Disney interactions.

Staying Awake for the Fireworks

The plan is to stay until the fireworks.

The children will definitely still have energy after an entire day in the parks.

They will not fall asleep at 7pm or ask to go back to the villa just as the evening show starts.

Definitely not.

Sibling Harmony All Day Long

This is perhaps the most optimistic assumption of all.

Four siblings spending an entire day together in exciting surroundings will obviously result in complete harmony.

There will be no arguments about:

  • who sits where

  • whose turn it is

  • who got the bigger snack

Just peaceful family bonding.

Obviously.

The Real Truth

The reality is that travelling anywhere with children rarely goes exactly as planned.

There will probably be tired moments, snack negotiations, and the occasional meltdown.

But there will also be laughter, excitement, and memories we’ll talk about for years.

And honestly, a little bit of chaos is probably part of the magic.
