Packing for a Disney World trip is a little different from packing for a normal holiday.
Between long park days, Florida weather, excited kids, and the amount of walking involved, having the right things in your bag can make a huge difference to how smooth your day goes.
As we prepare for our own Disney trip as a family of six, I quickly realised there are quite a few things you need that you might not think about at first.
So here is our complete Disney World packing list for families with kids.
Travel Essentials
Start with the basics that you absolutely cannot forget.
-
Passports
-
Boarding passes / flight confirmation
-
Travel insurance documents
-
Driving licence (if hiring a car)
-
Park tickets
-
Hotel or villa booking confirmation
-
Credit/debit cards
-
Some US dollars for tips and small purchases
Keeping these in one travel document organiser can make airport days much easier.
Clothing for the Parks
Disney parks involve a lot of walking and a lot of heat, so comfort is key.
-
Lightweight t-shirts or tops
-
Shorts or breathable trousers
-
Comfortable walking shoes
-
Spare socks
-
Light jacket or hoodie for evenings
-
Underwear and sleepwear
-
Hats or caps
-
Sunglasses
Many families also pack Disney themed outfits or ears for fun photos in the parks.
Swimwear
Even if you plan to spend most of your time in the parks, pools are a big part of Florida holidays.
-
Swimsuits
-
Swim shorts
-
Pool shoes or flip flops
-
Pool towels (if staying in a villa)
-
Rash vests for sun protection
If you're staying somewhere with a private pool, you’ll probably use it more than you expect.
Park Day Backpack Essentials
This is the bag you will take into the parks each day.
Here are some of the most useful things to pack.
-
Refillable water bottles
-
Portable phone charger / power bank

Cooling towels
-
Ponchos or lightweight rain jackets
-
Snacks for the kids
-
Hand sanitiser
-
Tissues or wet wipes
-
Sunscreen

Florida weather can change quickly, so having a few extra bits in your bag can save a lot of stress.

Kids make Disney extra magical, but they also come with extra packing needs.

Pens or markers for signatures

Small backpack for older kids

The My Disney Experience app will likely become your most used app during the trip.

Walking 10–15 miles a day in the parks can take its toll.
Extras That Make Disney Easier
These items aren’t essential, but many experienced Disney travellers swear by them.
-
Cooling neck fans
-
Reusable straws
-
Lanyards for tickets or passes
-
Ziplock bags for wet clothes
-
Small backpack rain cover

Travel laundry sheets
They can make long days in the parks much more comfortable.
Final Disney Packing Tip
The biggest tip I’ve heard from experienced Disney travellers is simple:
Don’t overpack.
You’ll probably buy souvenirs, snacks, and a few things along the way.
The goal is to bring what you need to stay comfortable, prepared, and ready to enjoy the magic.
Right now we’re still in the planning stage of our trip, so I’m sure we’ll discover even more things to pack before we go.
But this list should cover almost everything you need for a Disney World trip with kids.
