Low-Effort Summer Holiday Days (When You Really Can’t Be Bothered)

Not every day in the summer holidays is going to be productive.

Not every day is going to be filled with activities, fresh air, and wholesome family moments.

Some days… you just can’t be bothered.

And instead of fighting that, I’ve started leaning into it.

Because realistically, with four kids and six weeks to get through, low-effort days aren’t a failure.

They’re necessary.

So here are the kinds of days we have when energy is low, patience is questionable, and I just need things to be easy.

Pyjama days

No rush to get dressed, no pressure to go anywhere, just staying comfortable and letting the day start slowly.

Movie days

Films, snacks, blankets, and everyone sitting down for longer than five minutes, which is a win in itself.

Snack plates instead of proper meals

Random bits of food put together that somehow feel more exciting than actual meals, and require far less effort.

“Do your own thing” days

Everyone finds something to do, even if it starts with complaints, and I’m not constantly trying to organise it.

Screen time without guilt

Because sometimes it’s just what works, and that’s okay.

Letting them be bored

Even though it feels painful at first, it usually leads to them finding something to do eventually.

Easy outdoor time

Garden, scooters, or just sitting outside without turning it into a full activity.

No-plan days

Waking up without a schedule and just seeing how the day goes, instead of trying to control every part of it.

Leftovers or freezer dinners

Because cooking from scratch every day is not realistic.

Early nights (for everyone)

Because some days are just long, and starting again tomorrow feels like the best option.

These days aren’t exciting.

They’re not the ones you take photos of or remember in detail.

But they’re the ones that balance everything out.

The ones that make the busy days possible.

And honestly, they’re the ones that keep me sane.

Because sometimes getting through the day is enough.

And that counts too.
