I Think I’ve Accidentally Built a Children’s Clothing Shop

So I’ve come to a realisation.

I have too many kids’ clothes.

And when I say too many… I mean I could probably open a small shop and still have stock left over.

It’s especially bad for Nova.

Because this is what happens:

I buy clothes for the girls.

They wear them.

Then they get passed down.

Then I get given clothes from my sister’s two daughters, who are older.

And then those get added into the mix.

And by the time everything filters down to Nova?

She has an entire wardrobe… and then another one… and then a pile that doesn’t even fit in either.

And before I go any further — I am so grateful for the clothes we’re given.

Genuinely.

It saves money, it’s practical, and it means nothing goes to waste.

I would never not appreciate that.

But also… it has created a situation.

She has outfits for every possible situation.

Every season.

Every mood.

Every “just in case.”

Meanwhile, she rotates through the same five favourite things like the rest of it doesn’t even exist.

Why are children like this.

I’ll open a drawer and find things with tags still on.

Things I forgot existed.

Things I definitely didn’t buy recently but somehow feel new again.

And I’m stood there like… where did this even come from?

I’ve reached the point where I genuinely don’t know what she owns.

Which feels slightly out of control.

Because in my head I’m like “we need more summer clothes” and in reality she probably has enough to last until she’s 14.

There’s just something about hand-me-downs and gifted clothes that makes it spiral.

You don’t want to say no.

You don’t want to waste things.

But suddenly you’re drowning in tiny leggings and t-shirts.

So now I’m at the stage of needing to sort it.

Properly.

Go through everything.

Be ruthless (which I won’t be).

And accept that my 7 year old does not, in fact, need 47 outfit options.

Will I fix it?

Maybe.

Will I still end up buying something cute next time I’m out?

Also yes.

Because apparently I’ve learnt nothing.
