Living with PCOS: The Weight That Won’t Budge (And Why I’m Learning to Be Kind Anyway)

If you live with PCOS, you’ll know it’s not just a hormone issue — it’s a whole-body, whole-life kind of thing. And for many of us, one of the hardest and most emotionally loaded symptoms is the struggle with weight.

I’ve spent years feeling like I’m fighting with my body. Eating “right,” moving more, doing everything the articles say — and still not seeing the scale shift. Or worse, seeing it go up when I’m doing everything “perfectly.” It’s frustrating. It’s exhausting. And sometimes, it’s heartbreaking.

With PCOS, weight loss isn’t just about calories in vs. calories out. It’s tangled up in insulin resistance, cortisol levels, chronic inflammation, and a rollercoaster of hormones. It can feel like your body is working against you — and in a way, it kind of is. But that doesn’t mean we’re failing.

What I’ve come to realise — slowly, painfully, and with a lot of self-talk — is that my worth is not defined by my weight. I am allowed to love my body as it is, even while I care for it and try to feel better in it.

Instead of obsessing over shrinking, I’ve started focusing on how I feel:

– Am I sleeping okay?

– Do I have energy to play with my kids?

– Is my cycle manageable?

– Do I feel strong, or supported, or rested?

These are the markers I’m learning to trust. They don’t come with instant gratification, but they matter.

If you’re on this journey too — trying to manage PCOS, trying to feel at home in your body — please know you’re not alone. It’s okay to be frustrated. It’s okay to take breaks. And it’s more than okay to celebrate small wins, even if they don’t show up on the scale.

This body is still carrying me through motherhood, through life, through every beautiful and messy day. And that, in itself, is something worth honouring.

Have you struggled with PCOS and weight too? I’d love to hear your story in the comments — we’re stronger when we share.
