Flying to Florida With Kids (Our Travel Day With 4 Kids)

Travel day always sounds exciting… until you’re actually in it.

Add four kids, long flights, airport waiting, and time differences—and it’s a lot. But honestly? It went better than we expected.

Here’s what our travel day to Florida actually looked like.

The Plan

We flew:

- Heathrow → Boston (with Virgin Atlantic)

- Boston → Orlando (with Delta)

So it wasn’t just one long flight—it was a full travel day with a connection in the middle.

Getting to Heathrow

We drove to Heathrow, which took around 4 hours, and made a stop on the way.

By the time we arrived:

- Everyone was already a bit tired

- Snacks had already been started

- The day had very much begun

But it worked well not having to rely on trains or transfers with four kids and luggage.

The First Flight (Heathrow → Boston – Virgin Atlantic)

This was a day flight—which meant one thing…

No sleeping.

We went into it knowing we wouldn’t be getting much rest, and that helped set expectations.

The flight itself was actually really good:

- Plenty of snacks and drinks

- A proper meal

- Good entertainment options

The kids did really well, even without sleep, and it felt like a strong start to the trip.

The Reality of the Connection (Boston)

This is where it got a bit… intense.

The connection wasn’t a nice break like you might imagine.

We had to:

- Get off the plane

- Collect all of our luggage

- Go through the airport

- Re-check the luggage

- Get to the other side for the next flight

With four kids.

At that point in the day, everyone was tired, and it definitely felt like a lot. It wasn’t a relaxed pause—it was more like a full extra task in the middle of an already long day.

The Final Flight (Boston → Orlando – Delta)

By this point… we were definitely feeling it.

Tired, a bit over it, and just ready to get there.

But knowing it was the final stretch helped push through.

The Reality With 4 Kids

It wasn’t perfect.

There were moments of:

- Tiredness

- Boredom

- Snacks running low

- Constant questions

But there were also:

- Excitement

- Little wins

- Moments where everything just worked

What Actually Helped

A few things made a big difference:

- Snacks (always snacks)

- Entertainment for each child

- Keeping expectations realistic

- Not stressing over small things

Final Thoughts

Travel day with 4 kids is never going to be “easy”.

And honestly? The connection made it harder, not easier.

But it’s still doable.

And once you arrive, it’s all worth it.
